Knit a Pillow in Hurdle Stitch Knitting Pattern
Knit a Pillow in the easy Hurdle Stitch Pattern. This pattern texture became instantly popular with everyone, so I thought it would be fun to design a project using this simple stitch, too.

Knitting Supplies
Pillows give your home decor an instant pop of color, both indoors and out! We are getting ready for an outdoor party and it’s been fun knitting up something new for the festivities in the yard.
I’m knitting up my pillows in Bernat Maker Yarn, but please feel free to use any bulky #5 yarn of your choice. My written patterns below include knitting instructions to create a 14-inch square pillow, as well as a larger 20-inch square size. I’m also adding the specific stripe patterns I chose for each design. Of course, this is your unique design, so please feel free to knit your pillows up in any fiber, colors, and stripe patterns you desire.
- Pillow Form – 14-inch or 20-inch square
- Yarn – Bulky Weight (#5)
Sample uses Bernat Maker Yarn. Feel free to knit in any Bulky Weight #5 yarn of your choice. - Knitting Needles – Size 11 US (8 mm) 36-inch Circular Knitting Needles
- Tapestry Needle
- Scissors

Knitting Pattern
KNITTING GAUGE
4” x 4” = 12 Sts and 16 Rows in Hurdle Stitch Pattern.
HURDLE PATTERN
Row 1 (RS): Knit All
Row 2 (WS): Knit All
Row 3: * K1, P1 * (repeat between * *)
Row 4: * K1, P1 * (repeat between * *)
KNITTING STRIPES?
Change yarn color on Row 1.

PILLOW FRONT – Make 1
CAST ON
14” Pillow = 44 Stitches
20” Pillow = 64 Stitches
KNIT THE HURDLE PATTERN
14” Pillow = 14 times (56 rows)
20” Pillow = 20 times (80 rows)
Repeat Row 1 and Bind Off.

PILLOW BACKS – MAKE 2
CAST ON
14” Pillow = 44 Stitches
20” Pillow = 64 Stitches
KNIT THE HURDLE PATTERN
14” Pillow = 10 times (40 rows)
20” Pillow = 15 times (60 rows)
Repeat Row 1 and Bind Off.

Weave in Ends, as needed.
Overlap 2 Pillow Backs to match Front to create the center opening in which to insert your pillow form.
Seam outer edges with Right Sides Facing, then turn Right Side Out.
Insert Pillow Form… and you are done!

Please feel free to knit up your unique pillows in any color combinations of your choice. For your convenience, here are the color stripe patterns that I used in each of my sample pillows.

Color B = White
Color C = Royal Blue
Rows 1 – 12 (3 Hurdle Stitch Repeats): Color A
Rows 13 – 16 (1 Hurdle Stitch Repeat): Color B
