Ewe Heart Cowl – A Colorful Knitting Project
The Ewe Heart Cowl immediately caught my attention with its beautiful heart motifs, making it the perfect project to knit during the Valentine season.
After ordering my yarn kit from Ewe Ewe Yarns and knitting it up, I couldn’t wait to share it with you. This colorful piece makes a great addition to any wardrobe or a thoughtful handmade gift. Hope you enjoy making it, too!

Ewe Heart Cowl Pattern
If you enjoy knitting heart patterns, creating lace stitches, and experimenting with colorwork, this cowl is a fun project to add to your projects.
Designed by Meaghan Schmaltz of The Unapologetic Knitter, this intermediate-level knitting pattern features:
- Written and charted instructions
- Lacy and slip-stitched heart motifs
- Frequent color changes for an engaging project
Meaghan is an experienced knitting technical editor, as well, so the pattern is incredibly well-written. I am confident it is accurate, since I’ve personally knitted up this sample from her written instructions and helpful schematics.
Knitted Construction
The Ewe Heart Cowl is knit flat, beginning at the long bottom edge, so you can use any needle length you prefer—no circular needles required. The pattern includes complete written instructions, with optional charts for those who like to follow along visually.
This pattern uses mosaic knitting to create the colorwork motifs, working with just one color per row. Simply carry the unused color along the edge until it’s needed again—no need to cut the yarn unless the pattern specifies. This keeps yarn usage efficient and minimizes the number of ends to weave in.
About Ewe Ewe Yarns
Heather Walpole of Ewe Ewe Yarns is based in California and has a great YouTube channel. She hosts weekly live videos that I tune into every Wednesday to learn about her latest trends and products. If you enjoy working with colorful, high-quality yarn, you’ll love what she creates.
Heather’s developed ten different yarn colorways for this project. I knitted mine with ‘Heather’s Pick‘ of Wheat, Berry, Cotton Candy, and Orange Peel.
