Is Double Fleck a Reversible Pattern?
This vintage Double Fleck Stitch has vertical columns on a stockinette background with a pop of double purl textures. Looking at it from afar, you can see that the two purl stitches create a diagonal texture, as well.
This is not a reversible pattern because the right side of the work displays the design, but you can see that the wrong (back) side does not.
Did John Stamos Knit this Double Fleck Stitch?
Have you seen the television commercial where John Stamos confidently rattles off that he knitted his cozy scarf with the “double fleck pattern with a reverse garter stitch?” You probably wondered if that really was the pattern. Nope! It looks like it may have been the Double Stockinette Stitch, but not this Double Fleck. Sorry, Johnny.
Oh, and if you’re wondering what’s a reverse garter stitch? It’s simply the Garter Stitch but rather than knitting every row, you purl every row.

Design Suggestion: The Slip Stitch Knitting technique is a favorite way to create smooth edges on the right and left sides of your project. If you’re knitting up a flat scarf, dishcloth, or blanket, you may wish to add selvedge stitches to create a more finished look.

Knitting Instructions
The Double Fleck Stitch is an easy combination of simple Knit and Purl Stitches. Find my entire library of Knitting Techniques to help knit up this project.
To begin, cast on multiples of 6 stitches, plus 4. Once you have cast on the number of stitches desired, add 4 additional stitches onto your needle.
Row 1 (Right Side): Knit All
Knit all stitches on your needle on the first row.
Row 2 (Wrong Side): P4, * K2, P4 *
Begin with four purl stitches. Then you will repeat the pattern between the asterisks, which is knitting two stitches, then purling four stitches.
Row 3: Knit All
Just like your first row, simply knit all stitches on your needle.
Row 4: P1, K2, P1, * P3, K2, P1 *
Start by purling one, knitting two, then purling one stitch. You will then repeat the pattern between the asterisks, which is purling three, knitting two, and purling one. Continue this repeat pattern to the end of your knitting needle.
Repeat Rows 1 through 4: Once you have knitted all four rows, continue the pattern until your work is the length you desire.
