5×1 Rib Stitch Texture
This 2-Row Repeat Knit Stitch Pattern is an easy level project with a simple combination of knits and purls.
As you can see, this is not a reversible pattern because the right side of the work displays the design, but the wrong (back) side does not.
Additionally, this is primarily a Stockinette Stitch, which typically curls. As such I suggest you consider the following finishing recommendations to help your work lay flat.

Cast On and Cast Off Edges
When beginning and ending Rib Stitch Patterns, you may wish to do so “in pattern.” This creates the ribbed texture along the edge for knitted items like sleeves and necks, rather than a solid horizontal edge.
Casting On: Alternating the Long-Tail Cast On Knitwise and Cast On Purlwise stitches in pattern to begin your project.
Casting Off: Alternating the Basic Cast Off Knitwise and Cast Off Purlwise gives the finished edge the same texture as your ribbing.
Finishing Recommedations
Wet Blocking Swatch
I’m often asked how to achieve the same look as I have in the video for my knitting swatches. I Wet Block!
I simply wet each side and pin it to my blocking board and let it sit overnight. And it’s just amazing how blocking can make your knitted piece, just look and feel so perfect.
Easy Border
I also like adding a Garter Stitch border to all sides. On the bottom, I like to do just two knit rows and on either side I do two knit stitches. To do so, make sure to add stitches to your cast on. If you want two stitches on either side, then you’ll add four more cast on stitches.
Knitting Vertical Stripes
This 5×1 Flat Rib Stitch is perfect if you would like a clean, simple way to add thin lines of colorful rows of knitting up your work. Yes, we can always knit vertical stripes in the typical way of changing colors, interlocking our yarn, and knitting intarsia.
There is an easier and alternate way to add a vertical stripe of color within our knitted piece. We actually will be using a crochet hook to duplicate stitch our stripe into our knitting.
